Reddish Choral Society
were formed in 1973 by Roger Paine, Organist of St. Elisabeth’s, as the
‘United Choirs of Reddish’, for a one-off performance of Handel’s Messiah.
The choir continued beyond this concert, and was re-named Reddish Choral
Society. It now numbers about forty adults who perform three concerts a
year, as well as joining with the Church choir for special events. Recent
performances have included Maunder’s Olivet to Calvary, the Faure Requiem,
and Stainer’s Crucifixion, for which they joined with other singers from the
Reddish area. The Choral Society rehearse on Wednesday evening between 7:30
and 9:30 (with a tea break!) and is directed by Philip Waddington. Further
details can be obtained by calling him on 07792 150394 |

In order to indulge my love of singing, I joined Reddish
Choral Society some Twenty years’ ago. To my mind singing uplifts the
spirits and helps build up confidence. I have formed friendships amongst
fellow members of the choir, and I get great enjoyment performing before an
audience

Inspiration to sing in a choir stems from my Primary
School days, where I was encouraged and later joined the Church choir. When
the opportunity arose to sing ‘Messiah’ and join a large choir, I joined and
have enjoyed singing at many performances and learning new works since 1973.
A truly interesting way to unwind and enjoy your life in choral singing.

I
had been looking at the sign for Reddish ChoralSociety for a while, then one
evening I went along. That was four years ago. Ienjoy the rehearsals as we
build up to the finished pieces (Concerts). Come along and give your voice a
chance to see what you may acheive.
